2025 Workplace Policy Conference Recap
The 2025 Wisconsin Society for Human Resource Management (WISHRM) Workplace Policy Conference took place on February 20, 2025, at the Premier Park Hotel in Madison, WI. The event brought together HR professionals to discuss and navigate the evolving landscape of workplace policies.

The conference started with a networking reception on the evening of February 19th, at the hotel's "Top of the Park" venue, providing attendees an opportunity to connect in a relaxed setting. The main event on February 20 began with a welcome address by Jay Stephany, WISHRM Legislative Director and Jeff Palkowski, WISHRM State Director. The day's sessions were designed to equip HR professionals with insights and tools to address emerging workplace challenges, focusing on talent acquisition, employee support, and the ethical use of employee data.

Keynote and Sessions
Emily M. Dickens is the Chief of Staff, Head of Government Affairs & Corporate Secretary at SHRM, delivered the opening keynote titled "School House Rock: Civics, Policy, and Compliance for HR Professionals." She emphasized the importance of civics education in understanding governmental processes and legislative frameworks, enabling HR professionals to effectively advocate for their organizations.

State HR Challenges: Jesus Villa, Deputy Administrator of the Wisconsin Division of Personnel Management, provided insights into current HR challenges within the state's public sector, offering perspectives on talent management and policy implementation.

Employment Law Update: Attorneys Bob Gregg and Storm Larson from Boardman Clark LLC presented "Keeping Up with the Times - Employment Law Update and Trends," discussing recent legislative changes, significant court decisions, and emerging issues in employment law.

Advanced Labor Standards: Brian Buchanan and Andriana Bičanin from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development's Equal Rights Division led a session on "Advanced Topics in Labor Standards Law for HR Professionals," delving into complex aspects of labor standards and compliance.

Apprenticeship Programs: Chuck Olsen from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development discussed innovative apprenticeship programs in "Emerging Non-Traditional Apprenticeships to Grow & Retain Talent," highlighting how these programs can help organizations attract and retain talent through industry certifications and credentials.

The 2025 WISHRM Workplace Policy Conference provided a comprehensive platform for HR professionals to engage with experts and peers, gaining valuable insights into the future of workplace policies and strategies. Attendees left equipped with knowledge to navigate the complexities of modern HR challenges and to implement effective, inclusive policies within their organizations.
