Under limited supervision, this person is responsible for management and supervision of the Human Resources Services Department, and for leading identification, design, development, and deployment of enterprise-wide services in areas including human resources, payroll, benefits, compliance, investigations and other human resources sub-functions. In consultation with others, the director will identify opportunities for process improvement and standardization efforts across the UW System institutions, and often serve as sponsor to the resulting projects.

The Director is also responsible for overseeing the provision of various internal human resources services to the central administrative units of the UW System. These units include UW System Administration, UW Extended Campus, and UW-Shared Services.

The Director is expected to possess a broad understanding of the essential roles served by a human resources function within a large, complex organization. Professional standing and credibility with institutional and administrative stakeholders is required to succeed in this position. The Director’s role is to bridge System-wide strategy and policy with operational services. Most of the Director’s time and attention will be focused on human resources process standardization and improvement, and also the design, development, and oversight of operational human resources services.
