The U.S. Senate Wants to Hear from You about How to Lower Health Care Costs
By Cheryl DeMars, President and CEO

Do you feel like you’re spending too much for employee health care? Do you want to help do something about it?

The U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee recently held hearings that aimed to shine a public light on the problem of high health care costs. One of the resounding headlines from the hearings is that half of what we spend on health care is unnecessary.

This startling statistic has inspired Sen. Lamar Alexander, Chair of the US Senate HELP Committee, to take action. As one of several organizations that provided testimony to the U.S. Senate HELP Committee, The Alliance recently received a letter from Senator Alexander, inviting employers to make recommendations for federal legislation to lower health care costs.

Sen. Alexander wants to know:
  • What steps should the next Congress take to address America’s rising health care costs? This includes steps that would improve the health and outcomes of patients, as well as steps that would help patients access information about care to make informed decisions.
  • What does Congress or the Trump Administration need to do to implement these steps?
  • Once implemented, what are the potential shortcomings of these steps and why are they worthy of consideration despite the shortcomings?
We want your help to respond to this letter. This is a great opportunity to make your voice heard.  Please send us your ideas and suggestions by Feb. 15. We will compile them and pass them along to Sen. Alexander, including your name and/or your organization’s name.

Please put “Senate HELP ideas” in the subject line and use this email address:  thealliance@the-alliance.org.

As Sen. Alexander shared in his letter to The Alliance, health care costs are a growing burden on taxpayers, employers and family budget. Now is the time to share your ideas about ways to relieve that burden.
