WI SHRM’s Focus on Collaboration Highlights Opportunities for HR Professionals
WI SHRM partnership with the Library Workforce Connection (formerly LAWDS) held its first in-person workshop on Friday May 5th in Portage, Wisconsin. Several speakers discussed resources and service initiatives for libraries, which support workforce development in their local communities.
Workforce Readiness Director Kellie Dunn-Poggemann stated this program was “extremely insightful on the resources available and technical assistance for job seekers.” The next in-person workshop will be held on Thursday October 19 in Hayward, Wisconsin for HR professionals interested in learning more. These workshops will continue to strengthen WI SHRM’s support for the Library Workforce Connection (LWC).
WI SHRM also welcomes additional volunteers from the HR community to help their local library staff. HR professionals are uniquely qualified to provide support for job seekers using the library resources. Volunteer support could be offered in several ways:
- Scheduled “office” hours at the library to help with resume writing, mock interviews, job searches or other computer support.
- Scheduled meetings at the library for company hiring or other educational events.
- Scheduled virtual educational programs which could be done from home.

Human Resources Registered Apprentice Program for Wisconsin Employers
With support from the U.S Department of Labor, the SHRM Foundation partnered with the WI DWD Bureau of Apprenticeship to provide a solution that offers a unique educational opportunity through SHRM supported programs and on-the job learning.
On May 18, 2023, over 100 attendees gathered virtually to learn about the Human Resources Registered Apprentice Program for Wisconsin employers. A Human Resources apprentice program is a great opportunity to develop the next generation of diverse HR professionals and add HR skills within the company to support an HR department. This is a proven talent development solution for upskilling HR specialists. Apprentices also receive a nationally recognized credential upon completion.
