New Year Message from State Director Jackie Peterson
As we close (or should I say SLAM!!) the door on 2020, I would like to begin 2021 by thanking all of YOU, the volunteers of the WI State Council SHRM.  Although 2020 was a challenging year for all of us, the volunteers of this organization once again went above and beyond to make sure that we were able to serve and support our members virtually.  Well done!

This week, in a SHRM Volunteer Communication, SHRM announced a new campaign titled “When I Grow Up” that will include thought-provoking statements highlighting roadblocks current and future generations of workers will experience if we don’t act now to change the future of work.  The campaign challenges us to be a catalyst for change for healthier, more equitable workplaces.   Our State Conference theme this year is “Cracking the HR Code”.  What challenges are you facing as chapter members, chapter and state council leaders and at-large-SHRM members?   How can we help our members and organizations “Crack the HR Code” eliminating the roadblocks for current and future generations?  Our efforts in 2021 will be focused on identifying the combination that will bring us closer to those answers.

We begin our 2021 journey virtually in February with Day on the Hill.  This event will provide you with a half-day of education, legal updates, advocacy and networking opportunities with your HR colleagues and legislators.  Registration is now open on www.wishrm.org.  We encourage you to join the SHRM Advocacy Team (A-Team) and use your voice to influence workplace public policy.  A-Team members are eligible for 3 PDC’s per year for participating and 1 PDC for writing an HR-related letter or making a call to Congress/State Legislature.

Registration will open soon for our 2020 Student Conference and HR Games to be held on March 10th and 11th, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. each day.  The event will be held virtually, and we look forward to connecting with our future HR professionals while enjoying a friendly competition, education, networking and of course some FUN!  If you have any questions regarding the event, please reach out to Terleen Cheslock (cheslock@fvtc.edu or call 920-993-5101).

If you would like to get more involved with the state council or within your chapter, please let me know.  I can be reached by email at statedirector@wishrm.org or by phone at 920-203-9821.  WI SHRM has volunteer opportunities and I invite you to apply for our open positions – State Director Elect; District Director – Northwest; Leadership Director Elect; and Programming Director Elect.  More information is available at www.wishrm.org.
