2017 Wisconsin HR Student Games Recap
SHRM Student Chapter Advisors and College Relations Directors ~

Some of you may be on summer break, but I wanted to take a few minutes to update you some important and exciting human resources news! (Please forward this email to new student club advisors or new local college relations directors if you are no longer performing in this role, and let me know who the "newbies" are!)

I know some, but not all of you, so I’d like to formally introduce myself. My name is Tanya Hubanks, and I assumed the Wisconsin State SHRM Council College Relations Director role in the last few weeks. (As many of you know, Ashly relocated to Florida prior to the HR Games and has stepped away from her WISHRM Council role. She certainly deserves a big thank her for her service during her time as College Relations Director and for her efforts with the 2017 HR Games!) While I am stepping into this role mid-year, without the benefit of being a College Relations Director-Elect, as a former student club advisor at Chippewa Valley Technical College I have familiarity with the role and had the pleasure of working with superb State Council College Relations Directors in the past. I am passionate about helping our Wisconsin human resources program students learn more about both the always interesting and ever-changing field of human resources and the benefit of SHRM involvement (local, state, and national). I will do my best to support you and your student chapters for the next year or two. Please feel free to email or call me with good news, suggestions, questions, or concerns.

Below are a few updates and reminders for your chapters.

2017 HR Games and Student Conference Recap
On behalf of the Wisconsin State Council and Blackhawk Technical College, thank you to all who participated in or volunteered at the 2017 HR Games and Student Conference. Blackhawk Technical College hosted an engaging event filled with fierce competition, tasty desserts and evening conversation, valuable networking opportunities, awesome raffle prizes, and knowledgeable and passionate speakers. Thanks Blackhawk Technical College students for your planning and leadership. Great job; your hard work is appreciated!

In sum, 24 teams competed in the 2017 HR Games. The teams were from nine Wisconsin colleges. Over 100 attendees joined us at Blackhawk Technical College. The 2017 HR Game winners are:
  • 1st Place - Western Technical College, Take it Personelly (Ethan Kerker, Taylor Schreier, Carlie Harnish)
  • 2nd Place - UW Milwaukee, Admirals (Shay Nabors, Stephanie Aker)
  • 3rd Place - UW Eau Claire, EC Seniors (Alana Sundby, Hannah Knutson, Morgan Tabalske)
  • 4th Place - UW Platteville, Platteville Shrminators (Hannah Hutchcroft, Jordan Arkola, Lisa Hadenfeldt)
Congratulations to these teams and to all our student competitors on a job well done! We appreciate that you are interested in participating in this valuable learning and networking experience and hope to see many of you in March 2018.

Because of the delay in getting this information to you, we decided that it is probably too late to conduct a formal survey. However, if you have any feedback on the event or suggestions for our 2018 HR Games, please feel free to email me directly. We value your input and apologize for the late follow-up.

Bid to Host 2018 HR Games and Student Conference (Due 07/07/2017)
Is your student chapter interested in hosting the two-day 2018 HR Games and Student Conference?  Please complete and submit the attached 2018 Bid Proposal by Friday, July 7, 2017. There are many benefits to hosting the HR Games and Student Conference.  This event offers the opportunity to bring significant recognition to your school, community and chapter in addition to bringing professional chapter volunteers, students and student chapter advisors together in a meaningful way. The effort it takes to plan and conduct the games is worthwhile and beneficial to you, your peers, and the professional members who volunteer and participate in this energizing event. It is also an excellent resume builder. We understand that the turnaround is tight, but we hope to secure a host and location as soon as possible for planning purposes. Please e-mail or call me if you have any questions or interest.

2016-2017 Merit Award (was due to SHRM near the end of the spring semester)
WISHRM awards $100 to each student chapter that submitted a fully completed 2016-2017 Merit Award application. If your student chapter did this, please e-mail me confirmation and we will process your $100 bonus!
