SHRM24 Recap
SHRM24 – Chi-caaaa-go, Chi-caaaa-go…it’s our kind of town! Who would think it’s the “Windy City” as all the fun and learning took place inside the McCormick Place Convention Center. SHRM24 was hosted by our friends to the south, Chicago.

Sunday was a day for acclimation, registration, and figuring out what was where. We attended our SHRM Regional Council Business Meeting in the morning, learning what was new and upcoming within SHRM. We did a parade of states and Wisconsin represented quite well! Our kickoff speaker was NBC’s very own Al Roker, and he did not disappoint. Later Sunday night, the SHRM North Central Region hosted a networking event, where we could mingle with other states within our region.

The Keynote on Monday was Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., President and CEO of SHRM. Johnny’s message was to run fearlessly into the storm. HR continues to be on the frontline, and we need to be prepared for AI, aging workforces and many unpredictable disruptions. His message was strong and empowering! What a way to kick off the conference.

Jessica Jensen, LaFawn Davis, Svenja Gudell (all from Indeed), and Janet Gipson from Yale University opened the general session on Tuesday. They talked about AI. It’s no longer “if”; it’s “when” AI will be in your workplace and how to embrace it.

The last keynote speaker, Sherri Shepherd, closed out the conference. She has had an extensive film and TV career and shared her highs and lows, focusing on overcoming adversity and definitely motivating everyone to seize every opportunity. There was so much laughter and great insights!

There were so many amazing keynotes including; Johnny, Jessica, Janet, and of course, Sherri. Not to mention the hundreds of sessions available that we had to choose from. As a SHRM Volunteer Leader, we were recognized with VIP seating at keynotes and at the Kelly Clarkson concert Tuesday night, whose opening act was Jay Leno. We had our own volunteer lounge where we could decompress and enjoy a massage, popcorn, homemade lemonade, free gifts, and much more.

SHRM25 will be in San Diego on June 29 – July 2, 2025. If you are even considering attending, I encourage you to book your hotel now as they fill up fast!
