2023 Enterprising Leadership Grant Winners Announced
First, I want to thank all the chapters that took time to submit an Enterprising Leadership Grant application this year. We received a number of applications and each reflected the work that each chapter is either doing or proposing to do to engage with local organizations and partner on important initiative in their respective communities.

This year, we have selected three chapters to receive Enterprising Leadership Grant awards, and I am honored to announce them and present them with a certificate, to be followed up with a financial award.
  1. The first grant award goes to a chapter that partnered with their local University of Wisconsin campus to create and present a full-day Management and Supervisory Training program with speakers covering topics including: HR Compliance, Employee Engagement, Communication, and Performance Management. The program was delivered last month to over 100 attendees which included HR professionals as well as individuals with HR responsibilities within their organizations.
    1. I am pleased to award the first Enterprising Leadership Grant Award to Lakeshore Area Human Resources Association (Lindsey Krause – President)

  1. Our second grant award goes to a chapter that is looking to work with one of their community partners, Wellness Council of Wisconsin, to jointly host an event in early 2024 with a focus on workplace mental health. The event would include networking, a potential speaker from the National Alliance on Mental Illness, and a mental health resource fair bringing together members of the local chapter along with members of the Wellness Council of Wisconsin. This is anticipated as a first meeting with an anticipated attendance of 75+ attendees which may evolve into an annual event or other opportunities to partner on the important issue of workplace mental health.
    1. I am pleased to award the next Enterprising Leadership Grant Award to Metro Milwaukee SHRM (Amy Spahr – President)

  1. Our final grant award goes to a chapter that quite frankly, has been having a great year. This chapter has been hosting an annual legal event that has grown each year as they provide over 150 local HR professionals and others with timely information about employment law, legal, and compliance topics; access to local profit and non-profit vendors, and networking opportunities for the local workforce community. In addition, this chapter has also hosted a silent auction at this event with proceeds donated to the SHRM Foundation. These donations have helped the chapter to be recognized for a number of years as a Top 25 SHRM Foundation fundraising chapter in the nation, ranked the 12th highest fundraising chapter in 2022. If this wasn’t enough, at this year’s SHRM Volunteer Leaders’ Business Meeting in Washington, DC last month, this chapter was awarded a 2023 SHRM Pinnacle Award in the Medium & Large Chapter category for Enhancing the SHRM Community for this event, shining a national spotlight on this Wisconsin Chapter. The chapter is looking to use this grant award to continue to build upon this already nationally recognized event in 2024.
    1. I am pleased to announce the final Enterprising Leadership Grant Award to (any guesses?) Green Bay Area SHRM (Sarah Campillo – President)
Thank you again to all of our chapters that submitted grant applications. We are looking to make some tweaks to next year’s grant program which may include an increase in the grant pool and award categories by chapter size, aligning with the current SHRM Pinnacle categories, so stay tuned and start thinking about your application ideas for next year!
