~Volunteer Opportunities~

 

SHRM Leaders of Wisconsin – your assistance is requested for the 2023 Student Conference and Case Competition on Saturday, April 1, 2023. We are needing volunteers and hope you will serve in a volunteer role!

Case Competition Manager - College Relations Director Alexis Carter
The Case Competition Manager is responsible for the planning, oversight and management of all aspects of the case competition prior to, onsite and following the event.  Specific duties may be delegated to committees or sub-teams. The Case Competition Manager ensures the overall integrity of the competition, taking all steps necessary to protect the credibility of the event.  Enforces all competition rules and regulations, investigating and disqualifying participants as needed.


Registration Volunteers
Registration Volunteer assist with a variety of onsite activities depending on the format and size of the event.  This may include:

  • Greeters: welcomes attendees and directs them to registration, etc.
  • Attendee Check-in: staffs event registration desk, assists with distributing onsite materials
  • General Assistance:  help out wherever needed
No HR generalist certification required. 

Case Competition Team Connector
Team Connectors will direct teams to the appropriate judging rooms and ensure that the teams’ presentations are available on the computer. Team Connectors:
  • stay in the judging room with a team during their presentation
  • are tasked with putting a sign on the door to indicate that a presentation is in progress and ensuring that no one enters or leaves the room during a presentation
  • are responsible for keeping time and ensuring all teams are adhering to the rules of the Case Competition.

Team Connectors will communicate directly with the Competition Manager if there are any technical difficulties with the room technology. Case Competition Team Connectors are not to provide tips or feedback of any kind to the students before, during or after the presentation.

HR certification is preferred but not required. Students are not eligible to serve in this role if their college/university has a team competing at the event.

Case Competition Oral Presentation Judge
Oral Presentation Judges will be assigned to be part of a panel of judges during the preliminary rounds of the competition. Each Oral Presentation Judge will be assigned to a presentation room, where the teams will deliver their 15-minute presentations. Judges will then have 15 minutes to ask follow-up questions and another 15 minutes to assess the team’s presentation and complete the scoring rubric provided. 


Training will be provided by Competition Management to acquaint judges with the Case Competition rubric, rules and what they can expect during the competition preliminary rounds via an orientation session provided prior to the event, onsite or both.  During this orientation, they will meet their fellow panel judges, review the case and what they should be listening for in the student presentations, as well as have a chance to ask any last-minute questions.

Oral Presentation Judges MAY NOT provide tips or feedback of any kind to students before, during or immediately after the presentation. However, once the final oral presentation round is complete and the competition winners have been announced, Oral Presentation Judges may provide tips and feedback to the students.

Oral Presentation Judges must hold an SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP or other HR generalist certification.  Professional Development Credit (PDCs) may be available for SHRM certificants. Students are not eligible to fill oral judge roles. Volunteers and Advisors who support or are involved with a participating student team may not serve in this role to eliminate bias (real or perceived.)

Case Competition Final Oral Presentation Judge
Final Oral Presentation Judges will be assigned to be part of a panel of judges during the final round(s) of the competition. Finalist teams will deliver their 15-minute presentations, and Judges will then have 15 minutes to ask follow-up questions and another 15 minutes to assess the team’s presentation and complete the scoring rubric provided.
