Read a Book, Pass a Quiz, Earn PDCs!
2020 has been a difficult year for some certified HR professionals who relied on conferences and seminars that were cancelled or reimagined due to COVID-19. Did you know that a great way to broaden your HR knowledge and receive recertification credit at the same time is by reading books that SHRM has identified as worthy for their appropriate subject matter. To help SHRM-CPs and SHRM-SCPs maintain their credentials this way, the SHRMStore has compiled a list of books eligible for professional development credits (PDCs).
Reading books is one of the qualifying self-paced activities described in the SHRM Recertification Requirements Handbook in the "Advance Your Education" category. You can earn 3.0 PDCs by reading an approved book and then correctly answering questions about it in the matching free quiz on the SHRM eLearning platform. You can submit up to 10 books for a maximum of 30 PDCs per three-year recertification period.
1. Browse or Search for Approved Books
Browse the SHRMStore's list of books. Choose among works by familiar authors of you can also search for books in the SHRM Certification Portal under the Activities tab. Filter your search by Program Type: Videoconferences, webcasts, audiocasts, podcasts, e-books, self-directed e-learning.
2. Read Your Selected Books
Purchase your approved books through the SHRMStore or from your favorite bookseller, or borrow them from your local library. Audiobook, e-book and print versions are all acceptable.
3. Take the Related Quizzes
Finish reading your book, then test your knowledge! Whenever you're ready, go to SHRMStore.org, search for the title, then follow the instructions in the product description to access the matching free quiz on SHRM's eLearning platform. The passing score is 70 percent or better. If you don't pass the quiz on the first try, don't worry—you can try again.
4. Submit Your Passing Scores for Credit
After you pass the quiz, relax—SHRM Activity IDs are automatically loaded into the Certification Portal every two weeks. If you want to submit the item for credit sooner, you can manually enter the Activity ID, which is located on the Certification of Achievement certificate in your SHRM eLearning transcript. Track your PDCs and find your eLearning transcripts.
