Ocean Spray’s Attention to Training Keeps Them Ahead of the Industry
Wisconsin’s technical colleges will celebrate Agriculture Day 2018 on March 15 at Mid-State Technical College in Wisconsin Rapids. There, industry leaders recognized the importance of staying abreast of the latest training and technologies in the agriculture industry.

Advances in technology have helped drive agriculture to new heights. From growing crops to manufacturing farm equipment, the agriculture industry contributes 413,500 jobs to the economy (11.9% of the state’s total employment). To keep pace has required a skilled workforce that understands the ever-changing technological advances. By partnering with Wisconsin’s technical colleges, industry leaders are not only learning to adapt but are becoming a champion of change.

Several years ago, Ocean Spray’s Wisconsin Rapids facility was going through a $70 million expansion to double in size and triple the staff when they encountered difficulty finding employees with the necessary skills to operate the technology used in production. “Finding workers familiar with our type of technology is not easy,” explains Kirk Willard, the company’s Director of Facilities.

Ocean Spray then partnered with Mid-State Technical College to develop customized training for all supervisors and program leaders. “They allowed us to help interview instructors and set the curriculum very specific to our needs,” says Willard. “We’re quite proud here at Ocean Spray to say that all of our current supervisors have been or are in the program. It has made our facility significantly better.”

All 16 of the state’s technical colleges offer Business and Industry Services where educational professionals will work closely with your organization, no matter what industry you’re in, to identify specific needs and provide customized training and performance improvement solutions. The training programs are offered either at the college or at your facility and are designed to enhance skills, increase productivity and drive revenue growth.

As a leader in the human resources field, allowing your industry to fall behind in technology training is no longer an option in order to remain financially viable. Work directly with one of the colleges’ Business and Industry Services to help your organization succeed in a rapidly changing environment.

Wisconsin's 16 technical colleges serve every community in Wisconsin, provide learning opportunities close to home. The Wisconsin Technical College System offers more than 400 programs, awarding two-year associate degrees, one- and two-year technical diplomas, and short-term technical diplomas and certificates. The colleges also provide customized business solutions that help employers ensure a skilled incumbent workforce ready to improve processes or incorporate new technology.
