Wisconsin State Council SHRM Supports Texas Flood Relief Efforts
I’m sure you are all aware that parts of Central Texas were devastated by floods, profoundly impacting the region with the tragic loss of life and property. As families continue to rebuild and recover, many organizations from Texas and around the world are offering their support, including our friends at Texas SHRM.
I believe one of the most significant benefits of being involved with SHRM is the connections that are made with others. These connections often begin at the chapter level, and with additional years of experience, they can expand nationwide through SHRM connections in other states. Over the years, whether it has been natural disasters such as hurricanes impacting Florida and North Carolina or wildfires in California, SHRM State Councils across the country have offered prayers and support to their counterparts.
The Wisconsin State Council of SHRM has decided to partner with Texas SHRM to assist with flood relief efforts in Texas. At our WI SHRM Volunteer Leader Conference in August, we plan to launch two initiatives to support Texas SHRM and Texas flood relief efforts. First, we will donate 30% of all proceeds that are collected through our SHRM Foundation activities (which include cork/gift card pull activities, silent auction baskets, and the silent auction of an HR Conference Cruise package, (valued at over $2,100) to the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund on behalf of WI SHRM and Texas SHRM. Kerr County was the epicenter of the July 4th floods, and our donation can help with the long-term recovery and rebuilding efforts. Second, we also want to offer our personal messages of encouragement and support by sending our conference keynote speaker, Bruce Waller, Texas SHRM Assistant State Director, back to Texas with a #TEXASSTRONG banner signed by our WI SHRM members to show our solidarity with our fellow SHRM members with Texas SHRM that Wisconsin stands with Texas.
