2023 Message from the State Director
Looking back on 2022, the entire WI State Council SHRM should get a thunderous round of applause. Our 19 chapters, with their many dedicated and hard-working volunteers, have yet again met the continuing challenges of long-term COVID-19 struggles, skyrocketing inflation, an almost non-existent labor market and continuing political unrest. HR expectations have changed drastically and continue to evolve. Our Council and Chapters have, and continue to, evolve as needed.

We have had much to celebrate in 2022. I want to start off by recognizing the success of our Diversity, Inclusion & Workflex initiative, Accommodate in Place. Sharing tools and information that will allow Chapters and their members to immediately implement key takeaways – what a great way to serve our profession and enhance our HR communities. I have a feeling we have just seen the tip of the iceberg.

We welcomed virtual and in-person attendees in October to the 2022 WI State Conference “HR Breaking Through 2022” where we learned from the power of our past to be a force of the future. Co-chairs Kris Giblin and Lori Giese, along with the Conference committee worked long and hard to make this conference a success!

In December, members of the State Council and Chapter Presidents met to continue the strategic planning process which we had started in 2021. We heard updates and strategies around the four pillars and areas we focused on in 2022, specifically Chapter Support; Membership; Diversity, Inclusion & Workflex and Workforce Readiness. Focus areas for 2023 will be to continue with Chapter Support, Membership and Diversity, Inclusion & Workflex along with the addition of College Relations. We will be sharing more details throughout 2023 and encourage your feedback as we progress. If you are interested in working more closely in one or more of these areas, please contact me at statedirector@wishrm.org.

Our first event for 2023 is Workplace Policy Conference (formerly Day on the Hill) on February 16, 2023 at the Premier Park Hotel in Madison, WI. The Conference will provide HR professionals with an ideal forum to learn, discuss, network and engage with others on workplace policy, safety of employees/customers, advocacy topics and employment law updates.

If you would like to get more involved with the State Council or within your chapter, please let me know. I can be reached by email at statedirector@wishrm.org or by phone at 920-226-0803. WI SHRM has volunteer opportunities available and I invite you to check out the website at www.wishrm.org for more information.
