SHRM22 Recap
SHRM22 – Where do I start? What an amazing opportunity to represent WI!! Johnny C. Taylor’s opening keynote talked about the effects of the pandemic and how we all have discovered “covid clarity” about our lives, jobs, priorities, health, and how we define a successful life. As we have all realized, workers have changed how they view the employer/employee relationship. There are new expectations from employers and of HR. The conference them “Cause the Effect” really hit home for me and Johnny used it as a rallying cry for a real paradigm shift and call to action. He told a story of a friend who asked him if he was a “thermometer” or a “thermostat”, one measures the temperature, the other changes it. What are you? Do you just identify issues or do you take the opportunity to make a difference? We as HR Professionals need to cause the effect, use our influence to change our workplaces and our world to better people’s lives and maximize human potential.
There were so many amazing keynotes including Arianna Huffington and George W. Bush, not to mention the hundreds of sessions available to choose from. As a SHRM Volunteer Leader, we were recognized with VIP seating at keynotes and at the Brad Paisley concert as well as our own volunteer lounge where we could decompress and enjoy a foot massage or chair massage.
If you have never attended a SHRM National Conference, I highly recommend SHRM23 being held in Las Vegas June 11-14, 2023 where we will go “All In.” If you are even considering attending, I encourage you to book your hotel now! As a WI State Council, we will be working to identify the attendees from WI so we can network together and represent the Badger State!!
