JobPod Launch

The Wisconsin library system celebrates the launch of its next JobPod at the Brown County Library! Libraries are easily accessible, in even the smallest communities in the state. The locations make it easily accessible when it can be difficult to get to other workforce development locations due to transportation or other challenges.

The JobPod gives access to a full range of job services including computers, internet, technology assistance, job search resources, virtual interview spaces, and more. Check it out at https://jobpodwi.org/ or https://www.browncountylibrary.org/jobpod/

Southwest Solutions Initiative Connects Libraries with Social Service Providers

A month-long series of connection-building events was held in the southwest region of the state. The initiative was organized by Shauna Koszegi (Southwest Wisconsin Library System), Chris Baker (WI Department of Public Instruction), and Mark Jochem (South Central Library System), with the goal of addressing a recognized need for better communication between libraries and service providers. Many libraries were struggling to help patrons navigate complex service systems in their communities.

Participating organizations represent a variety of services, including workforce development and training, health and human services, veterans’ services, and disability and aging support.

The Southwest Solutions initiative seeks to empower libraries to better connect their communities with available services. Libraries are uniquely positioned to help residents find the help they need. By offering specialized resources such as technology, learning materials, and expert guidance, libraries play a crucial role in bridging gaps for those facing barriers like transportation or technological limitations.

The meetings also offered social service providers the opportunity to learn about the valuable resources libraries can offer. The sessions will conclude in March with a call to action for continued collaboration to address regional challenges.

A similar collaboration, Portage Workforce and Service Connection (PAWSC) continues to help Portage Public Library provide more seamless access to social and workforce services. PAWSC established more formalized communication and collaboration so community members can get the assistance they need with less back-and-forth between organizations.
