You Make a Difference
You Make a Difference. In the simplest of terms, this captures the opportunity that each of us has each day to make a positive contribution to the world we share. Working in the field of HR we are uniquely positioned to make a difference for someone in a simple or grand way. Taking the time to meet with a recent graduate for an informational interview about the profession of HR, volunteering at a local chapter workforce readiness event to help underrepresented individuals in our community with their resumes or taking a moment to connect with a coworker who is experiencing symptoms of mental and physical exhaustion and stress. These practical opportunities present themselves to those in the profession every day.
It is one of the many reasons that the HR profession can be both challenging and simultaneously rewarding. It takes a considerate and person-focused individual to lead these impactful conversations.
I have had the pleasure of serving as the WI SHRM Foundation Director for the last 2 years. It has been my privilege to have held this role, and I am truly honored to be a part of the amazing work of The SHRM Foundation. The Foundation provides a conduit for contributing to our workplaces and our communities in three key areas –
- Widening pathways to employment for those individuals who have been overlooked, which in turn enables businesses to engage with a new perspective on the full spectrum of talent.
- Advancing our field by supporting learning, growth, and knowledge acquisition for those in the human resource profession.
- Tackling societal issues by preparing HR and leaders with the knowledge to address workplace mental health and wellness challenges.
I would like to extend a sincere “Thank You” to the HR leaders throughout our state who have made a difference this year. Your time, your service, your contributions to this cause, and your care for your fellow human beings has not gone unnoticed.
You never know the impact that you can have on another person – just a few moments of your day can impact someone's life in such a powerful way.
