Description: Coordinates a consistent and comprehensive approach to managing leaves of absence for SSM Health. In partnership with Unum, reviews and processes leaves following FMLA regulations and SSM Health policies and procedures. Serves as leave of absence expert, providing guidance to employees, leaders and HR staff on all aspects of leave of absence.

Responsibilities:
1. Mission, Values and Standards of Ethical Conduct
  A. Demonstrates and imparts the mission, philosophy, values and vision of SSM Health in daily activities and into operational functions, processes and environment.
B. Works effectively as a team member in a dynamic executive environment where collegiality, subsidiary and sharing responsibility is required and highly valued within a matrix organization. Promotes teamwork within and across the organization by maintaining positive and productive relationships and utilizing effective problem solving skills.
C. Adheres to the SSM Health Standards of Ethical Conduct, displaying, as applicable, ethical behavior in the areas of business ethics, legal compliance, confidentiality, conflicts of interest, vendor relationships and the reporting of questionable activities.

2. Exceptional Service – Patient/Customer
A. Provides guidance and accurate and complete communication throughout the FMLA/LOA process for employees and leaders. Partners with Unum to ensure appropriate information is being shared with employees and leaders.
B. Presents educational sessions and attends meetings as requested to address leave questions and issues.

3. Exceptional Engagement – Physician/Employee
A. Serves as a resource to operational leaders, HR Partners and HR Leaders in determining appropriate steps and processes under the FMLA regulations and SSM Health policies. Provides recommendations based on consistent practice and in alignment with regulations and policies.

4. Exceptional Performance – Financial/Growth/Development
A. Reviews leaves of absence for potential issues and elevates issues to HR Leader/HR partner to avoid negative impact to the organization or to the employee.
B. Ensures appropriate processing of benefits for duration of the leave including paid time off benefits (PTO/ETO/EMTO) and disability. Partners with the Benefits Specialists to ensure missed benefit premiums are handled appropriately.
C. Performs regular audits and identifies trends related to leaves of absence.
D. Provides reports and data on leave of absence usage as requested.
E. Ensures compliance with State and Federal regulations related to leaves of absence.

Qualifications
Required:
1. High school diploma or equivalent with 3-5 years of relevant experience and/or education in a Human Resources related field.
2. Understand the Mission and Values of SSM Health and Franciscan Sisters of Mary.
3. Ability and desire to integrate CQI principles and tools into work processes.
4. Ability to type proficiently, use personal computer, and other standard office software/equipment.
5. Organizational ability in planning work, prioritizing assignments and providing timely responses.
6. Well-developed interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and with discretion, especially in dissemination of confidential information where required.
7. Knowledge of FMLA and leave of absence regulations.
 
Preferred:
1. Bachelor's degree.

5. Ability to safely lift/carry and to push/pull objects weighing 20 pounds.
