Workforce Readiness Partnerships
WI SHRM Workforce Readiness team continues to build partnerships with the WI Department of Workforce Development’s (DWD) Bureau of Apprenticeship and Library Workforce Connection (LWC) to promote the visibility of both National and WI SHRM initiatives.

Workforce Readiness Director Kellie Dunn-Poggemann at workforcedirector@wishrm.org can help you get connected with either of these initiatives. She explains “We are excited to continue to drive partnerships which can help our organizations and demonstrate the value of the WI SHRM connections. We encourage your WI SHRM Chapters and organizations to get involved to help build the future in these areas.”

Human Resource Registered Apprenticeship Program (HR RAP)
With support from the U.S Department of Labor, the SHRM Foundation developed and launched the HR RAP in February 2021 to help individuals enter the field of HR. Then, they partnered with the WI DWD Bureau of Apprenticeship to provide Wisconsin employers with a proven talent development solution for onboarding and/or upskilling HR Specialists.

This program offers an apprentice unique education through SHRM supported programs toward the SHRM-CP exam, on-the-job learning and a nationally recognized credential upon completion.

This is a fantastic opportunity for employers who are looking to develop the next generation of diverse HR professionals. For more information and resources on the Wisconsin HR Specialist Registered Apprenticeship program, visit dwd.wisconsin.gov/apprenticeship or email chuck.olsen@dwd.wisconsin.gov.
*This HR Registered Apprenticeship Program is officially recognized as a Registered Apprenticeship with the State of Wisconsin Apprenticeship program through the Department of Workforce Development.

Library Workforce Connection (LWC)
WI SHRM is collaborating with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) and the Department of Workforce Development, Library Workforce Connection (LWC) group. The first Workshop “Position Your Library to Provide Workforce Assistance to Your Community” will focus on strategies for future public-facing programs, initiatives, and building local connections. Libraries are asked to do more than ever to help their communities thrive, often by assisting job seekers in gaining meaningful employment. This takes on many forms such as helping library users in job searching, application preparation, and other employment services.

The first workshop is being held on
March 10, 2023, at the Portage County library and will specifically be focused on building local/regional connections and ongoing partnerships within South-Central Wisconsin. Chris Baker with the Department of Public Instruction has been instrumental in the creation of this workshop which will be the first of others to be held in the state over the next year.

Important Update - Posted March 9, 2023:

While it is always difficult to anticipate the severity of inclement weather, current reports are expecting snowfall in the southeastern Wisconsin area (beginning the afternoon of Thursday 3/9 and lasting through Friday morning 3/10) resulting in accumulation of 6 or more inches of snow in the Portage area and possibly providing hazardous driving conditions.

We’ve really been looking forward to hosting Friday’s in-person workshop at the Portage Public Library, titled Position Your Library to Provide Workforce Assistance to Your Community; that said, respecting the fact that some attendees were going to be traveling quite some distance throughout the state, it’s more important to be safe rather than sorry. As such, the workshop team agreed that it’d be best to cancel and reschedule the Friday workshop.

The rescheduled date for the workforce development workshop will now be Friday, May 5th, during the same time frame (9:30 am - 2:30 pm, lunch provided) and in the same space (the Bidwell Room at the Portage Public Library; 253 W. Edgewater St, Portage, WI).
