WI SHRM Continues Its Partnership with LWC
WI SHRM continues its partnership with the Library Workforce Connection (LWC) organization which is a group of library System Directors, Consultants and Workforce Development Specialists. The core team evolved from a four-year initiative to provide librarians the education and partnerships they needed to support library patrons who continue to use the services for employment search and career exploration. Partners include representatives from several organizations:

  • Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD)
  • Wisconsin’s non-profit Workforce Development Boards (WDBs)
  • Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI)
  • Wisconsin Library Association (WLA)
  • Wisconsin Society for Human Resource Management (WISHRM)

Over the past year, the group held two in-person workshops at the Portage Public Library and the Community Library in Hayward. These events connected the community workforce leaders in each region. Representatives from several libraries came together to share best practices and better position their locations for workforce assistance within their individual communities. Speakers came from Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, Employ Milwaukee – Workforce Development, Portage Area Workforce & Service Connection, WI SHRM State Council, Northwest Wisconsin Workforce Investment Board and WisCargiver Careers. The next workshop is planned at the Brown County Library in Green Bay on May 24, 2024.

Workforce Readiness Director, Kellie Dunn-Poggemann states “WI SHRM is excited to partner with this group to offer assistance in HR focused topics to help get talent back to work. We encourage your organizations to recognize the library system as a place to offer your expert support.” Public libraries are centrally located in cities and offering programs and career development services due to the increasing demand for their materials, computers, Wi-Fi and more.
