2017 WISHRM Diversity Advocate Award Winners
During the recently held Wisconsin State HR Conference it was announced that Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin received the 2017 Diversity, Inclusion and Work flex Advocate Award. The award is given to an organization who has been a role model in their local community as a strong advocate for diversity, inclusion and workplace flexibility.

Led by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin has shown a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion that not only supports the health systems mission, vision, values and goals: but has made an impact in their community as well.

Froedtert has implemented a strong Diversity Recruitment Plan that holds the organization accountable to hiring and developing a diverse workforce that represents the community that it serves. This has been accomplished with the help of a strong stragetic network of diverse community partners.  One example of their commitment is the signing of a Health Equity Pledge through the American Hospital Association setting goals to increasing diversity goals in governance and leadership as well as increasing workforce cultural competency.

Another partnership of a stragetic collaboration is the Center for healthcare Careers which Froedtert implemented in partnership with Employ Milwaukee and other area healthcare systems to create employment opportunities to area underrepresented populations and emerging markets.

Froedtert has embraced workplace flexibility efforts through its Wellness Works program initiated through their Human Resources department. They also have a partnership program Workplace Clinics implemented to increase the availability and flexibility of same day appointments and reduced the per month per payment rates for the system. The result has been a reduction on staff absenteeism and increased productivity and overall staff engagement and satisfaction.

Exemplifying as a community role model Froedtert has created a number of community initiatives to work at meeting the needs of the diverse community that it serves. Several of their initiatives are:
  • Emerging markets initiative- partnership with the Milwaukee Brewers, bucks and young professional groups to create greater awareness about internships and job opportunities to targeted populations.
  • Supplier Diversity Initiative-they invested $14 million dollars in women/minority businesses that helped build and/or renovate facilities.
The Wisconsin State SHRM Council is proud to recognize Froedtert and the Medical College for its work in displaying the ideals of which the award represents in diversity, inclusion and workplace flexibility.
