Summary of Role The Medical Case Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of employee workers’ compensation claims and non-work related short-term and long-term disability claims. Other responsibilities include implementation of, and compliance with, the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and all FMLA related leaves. This is a safety sensitive position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
o Comply with federal, state, and local regulations such as Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disability Act (ADA) , Workers’ Compensation and Disability Insurance Law, and Health Insurance Privacy and Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA)
o Actively balance and support the employees’ and the cooperative’s needs by promptly reporting and providing communication throughout the life of the claim
o Monitor medical restrictions and recommend return to work option, which may include, facilitating vendor Functional Capacity Evaluations or evaluations of accommodations for ADA compliance and Fit for Duty status
o Proactively discuss high risk claims with insurance broker and insurance provider as needed and participate in claims review bi-annually at a minimum
o Offer FMLA benefits and as appropriate, process and determine status, track and communicate; process Medical Leave of Absence requests
o Oversee Drug and Alcohol Test Program and Act as Designated Employer Representative (DER) for test results
o Complete ergonomic assessments and recommend appropriate follow up
o Manage, track and report accurate job-related metrics in a timely manner to appropriate staff
o Educate and create awareness with medical professionals of CROPP Return to Work program and philosophy
o Manage OSHA 300 log data and reporting.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
o Maintain good working relationships and have timely, honest, positive two-way communication with CROPP internal and external employees
o Present self in professional manner to employees at all levels of the organization
o Manage quality of work, meet deadlines, and adhere to assigned scope of work
o Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
o Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health or related field, or equivalent in education required
o A minimum of seven years of related experience required
o Proven experience in multi-tasking and high attention to detail required
o Ability to work with confidential information and maintain confidentiality
o Excellent communication, organizational, and problem solving skills needed
o Ability to efficiently create and manage electronic documents, proficiency in Microsoft Office required
o Valid Driver’s License required and ability to travel and work from various locations
o Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds infrequently
