Merrill Area Public Schools is seeking an experienced Director of Human Resources to oversee all functions of the Human Resources Department. MAPS is a district of 350 permanent employees plus substitute teachers and aides, coaches, event workers, tutors, etc. This position will oversee 1.5 FTE HR staff members and has indirect oversight of all District employees.
Ideal candidate will possess minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or Business Administration, have a minimum of 5 years of experience at a Director level, and hold an HR certification such as PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP. Previous experience in public education Human Resources a plus.
Must be strategic, forward thinking and a team player who is able to multi task and move processes and systems forward utilizing technology and other available resources. Must be current on all applicable employment laws.
This is a full-year, full-time salaried position that is eligible for benefits including health, dental, vision, vacation, paid holidays, PTO, paid 403(b) contribution, and participation in the WI Retirement System.
Responsibilities include:
Participate in Superintendent's Cabinet meetings and Administrative Leadership Team meetings.
Develop strategies to continually improve performance of the HR Department and provide a high level customer service experience for all staff that interact with the department.
Service on School Board Finance/HR Committee which includes regular reports and presentations to Committee members.
Provide monthly updates and present information to the Board of Education as needed.
Coordinate applications, interviews, and hiring of district employees, including, but not limited to placement on compensation model/schedule, and issuing individual letters of employment and contracts.
Oversee compilation and organization of data needed for local, state, and federal reports.
Maintain staff personnel files.
Employee relations, including investigations, discipline, non-renewals, and termination of employees.
Oversee and manage employee handbooks.
Guide principals through Improvement Plan process and participate in the intensive supervision of staff in need of assistance.
Monitor PTO and vacation leaves including FMLA, workers compensation, and disability.
Participate in the staff development planning and activities for support staff.
Manage and coordinate employee benefits, including EAP and wellness programs.
Develop effective communication strategies to ensure all staff receive HR related information in a timely and easily understood manner.
Chair employee committees, such as Employee Benefits Education Committee and Culture Committee.
Coordinate and plan the year end Staff Recognition Ceremony.
Guide employees through the FMLA process.
