Description: The School of Medicine and Public Health's Human Resources department is seeking experienced, driven, and organized individuals to join our team in this Human Resources Manager role!
 
DEGREE AND AREA OF SPECIALIZATION:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a closely related field is required or equivalent experience.
 
MINIMUM NUMBER OF YEARS AND TYPE OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of five years of post-degree experience in a Human Resources role required.
  • Experience working within a Higher Education, academic medical, or health care environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of University of Wisconsin and UW-Madison policies and procedures strongly preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
 
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE:          
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred.
 
POSITION SUMMARY:
           
Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean for HR, Equity and Inclusion, function as a Human Resources Manager for the School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) within the Dean's Office. This position shares responsibility for nearly 2400 faculty, 1900 academic staff, 1000 university staff employees and employees in training, student assistants and volunteers.
 
This position has specific responsibilities related to a subset of departments and programs within the School. This position is responsible for administering all phases of a HR program that is consistent with SMPH, University, State and Federal policies, codes and statutes. The incumbent will oversee appointment and lifecycle of all types of employees. The incumbent will guide and direct department personnel in recruitment, hiring, evaluation, discipline, retention, termination, classification, reclassification, training, and diversity goals.
 
The incumbent is expected to demonstrate exceptional customer service by establishing and maintaining effective professional relationships with managers, supervisor, coworkers, and all customers. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information with tact and discretion. Use effective team skills to contribute to the efficient operation of the work unit. Present ideas, carry out assignments, and provide information as required. Effectively share knowledge and skills obtained through professional development.
